A holistic, evidence-aware path to relief at Global Health Clinics (Auckland)

Lisa Edmondson – Women and Children’s Health and Hormone Lead, Nurse, Master Holistic Health Coach

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. It can drive period and pelvic pain, impact energy and digestion, and—importantly—affect fertility. At Global Health we create integrative plans: we respect medical options and also offer holistic supports for people who prefer a natural approach or who tried standard care and still need relief.

This article is educational and not a substitute for personal medical advice.

Common symptoms

  • Pelvic pain (often cyclical, around periods)
  • Pain during or after sex
  • Pain with bowel movements or urination (especially during menstruation)
  • Heavy or irregular bleeding
  • Fertility challenges
  • Fatigue, bloating, nausea, diarrhoea/constipation (often cyclic)

When to see a doctor

  • Pain is severe/debilitating or worsening
  • You’re trying to conceive without success
  • Over-the-counter pain relief is no longer effective
  • New or concerning symptoms (fever, sudden severe pain, fainting)

Getting a diagnosis

Your clinician may: review your history, perform a pelvic exam, run labs, organise ultrasound, and sometimes recommend laparoscopy (a surgical procedure) to confirm endometriosis and assess its extent (often graded mild–severe).

Your options (integrative overview)

Medical treatments

  • Analgesia: NSAIDs for pain flares
  • Hormonal therapy: combined oral contraceptives, progestins, or GnRH analogues/antagonists to reduce activity of endometriosis lesions
  • Surgery: laparoscopic excision/ablation; more extensive procedures in severe cases
  • Fertility care: from cycle optimisation to IVF when appropriate

We don’t dismiss medical therapies—especially for severe pain, rapid symptom escalation, or fertility plans. We can co-manage your care and layer holistic strategies around any prescription or surgical plan.

Holistic toolkit at Global Health

1) Anti-inflammatory nutrition

  • Build meals around vegetables, berries, legumes, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and quality proteins; limit ultra-processed foods and excess sugar.
  • Many clients feel better reducing alcohol; some trial short, guided eliminations (e.g., dairy or gluten) to identify personal triggers.
  • Targeted nutrients (personalised to your history): omega-3s (EPA/DHA), magnesium, curcumin, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), vitamin D, and iron if deficient.

2) Gut–hormone synergy

  • Daily fibre (aim ~25–35 g/day) supports hormone metabolism and regularity.
  • Include cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, kale) for natural compounds that aid estrogen processing.
  • Support the microbiome with prebiotic foods and, when appropriate, practitioner-grade probiotics—selected for your symptoms and tolerability.

3) Nervous-system & pain modulation

  • Breathwork, yoga, mindfulness, and sleep strategies help reduce central sensitisation and pain perception.
  • Pelvic floor physiotherapy can address tightness, trigger points, and dyspareunia.
  • Heat therapy (heating pad/hot water bottle) is a simple, effective tool for flares.

4) Movement you can sustain

  • Gentle, regular activity (walking, mobility, strength) improves circulation, mood, and pain thresholds. We pace and personalise to avoid boom-and-bust cycles.

5) Low-tox lifestyle

  • Choose fragrance-free personal care and cleaning products; avoid smoking/vaping. These shifts can meaningfully reduce irritant load for sensitive systems.

6) Ozone-assisted sessions (HOCATT™)

  • Our HOCATT offers a multi-modal session (steam, carbonic acid pre-cycle, and transdermal ozone) aimed at circulation, relaxation, and general wellbeing.
  • We use conservative ozone settings and clinician supervision; this is positioned as supportive (for comfort, stress and recovery), not as a disease cure.
  • Not suitable for everyone (e.g., early pregnancy, certain medical conditions). We’ll screen carefully and coordinate with your medical team.

Fertility-aware care

Endometriosis can affect fertility through inflammation, adhesions, and egg/sperm/implantation factors. We’ll align holistic strategies (nutrition, targeted supplements, stress & sleep support, pelvic physio) with your fertility timeline and—when needed—work alongside gynaecologists and fertility specialists.
